Bonita Stanton, M.D.
Prof., Vice Dean of Research for the School of Medicine

Dr. Stanton is Schotanus Professor of Pediatrics and Vice Dean for Research at Wayne State University School of Medicine.  She has extensive experience in implementing behavioral interventions in developing countries including Bangladesh (where she lived for 5 years), Egypt (where she lived for 6 months), China, Namibia and Latin America. Dr. Stanton has consulted extensively in Africa, Asia, and South American for USAID, WHO, UNICEF, the World Bank, and the International Vaccine Institute. She has been the Principal Investigator of numerous NIH-funded studies in the area of adolescent risk behavior and parenting and currently is the Principal Investigator of a NIH-funded study on  the fidelity of implementation of an effective HIV prevention program throughout all elementary schools in The Bahamas. She has extensive experience in China, having served as the co-principal investigator in several HIV risk reduction and HIV-related interventions funded by NIH and serving as an investigator in other public health interventions in China funded by the Gates Foundation. Dr. Stanton has published over 250 peer-reviewed journal papers, commentaries and book chapters.
